Commands to be typed and the shell prompt are enclosed in a text box with white background. e.g. The "passwd" command typed below will be illustrated as:

[root@localhost root]# passwd

Command output is also shown as regular text enclosed in a text box with a white background e.g. After typing the “date“ command

[root@localhost root]# date

The output will be indicated by:

Sat Apr 27 09:51:02 PDT 1923

Special keys on the keyboard are enclosed in braces. e.g. the “enter” or “return” key will be denoted by <ENTER> and the “delete” key will be denoted by <DELETE>.

LINUX is very case sensitive. A command typed in the wrong case, is considered to be a completely different command. The same goes for file and directory names.
